Nella prima gara della stagione i New Orleans Hornets devono fare i conti con l’assenza di Jarrett Jack, il play designato a sostituire Chris Paul.

Coach Monty Williams decide così di far partire in quintetto Marco Belinelli nel ruolo di play e Eric Gordon come guardia.

“Marco è uno dei nostri migliori giocatori – spiega il coach – E’ stato titolare in tante partite e nei play off. Ha l’esperienza e l’accortezza necessaria. Può tenere la palla. Certo non gli stiamo chiedendo di fare il play, gli abbiamo chiesto di essere un giocatore stasera. E lui lo è stato.”

Belinelli quindi parte da play per poi tornare guardia per alcuni tratti di partita, La sua prestazione è buona: 10 punti (4/6, 0/5, 2/2 tl), 5 rimbalzi, 1 assist, 2 falli e 1 persa in 30′24″.

Ecco il suo commento post gara: “Partita onestamente non bellissima, ma abbiamo vinto di un punto con il canestro di Gordon a 4 secondi dalla fine e questo è quello che conta. La mia prestazione è stata buona con 10 punti e 5 rimbalzi. Quest’anno la squadra è diversa, dobbiamo stabilire nuovi equilibri. Tuttavia giocare da play non mi è dispiaciuto, l’ho già fatto in passato e lavorando sodo so che qui posso crescere e arricchire il mio bagaglio. Come sono cresciuto lo scorso anno in difesa e stasera l’ho dimostrato. Se gioco e sono utile alla squadra sono soddisfatto”.

Mercoledì 28 dicembre debutto degli Hornets alla New Orleans Arena alle 7PM (2AM in Italia) con i Boston Celtics.

For the first regular season match the New Orleans Hornets hadn’t Jarrett Jack in force, the man claimed as the new Chris Paul for the team.

Coach Monty Williams decided to start with Marco Belinelli as a point guard and Eric Gordon as a guard.

“Marco is one of our better players. To start that many games for an NBA team, and start in the playoffs, he has savvy. He can handle the ball. We’re not asking him to be a point guard. We’re asking him to be a player tonight. And that’s what he is.”

Belinelli has started as a point guard and he came back partially to guard in the match. The score is good: 10 points (4/6, 0/5, 2/2 ft), 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 fouls and 1 lost  in 30′24″.

He said after the match: “Actually was not a really good match, but we have scored the winner point at the very last time, this is the important thing. I think I had a good match with 10 points and 5 rebounds. This year the team is different we have to manage our new balance. Anyway play as a point guard was really not bad for me, I did it again in the past and I know that working hard I can grow up my knowledge. I done it the last year with defense and tonight I showed it. I’m always happy and proud to play well and be positive for the team”.

Wednesday 28th december at 7 pm cst (2 am in Italy) the first match at the New Orleans Arena against the Boston Celtics.
